Life and Care in Spartanburg
Spartanburg is a college town, home to Wofford College, Converse University and Spartanburg Community College, with USC Upstate nearby. College is often when ADHD becomes hard to manage, as structure falls away and demands rise, and we see students 18 and older by video between classes.
The nearby BMW plant runs two shifts, employs more than 11,000 people and builds more than 1,500 vehicles a day. Fast-paced production work leaves little room for lapses in focus, and untreated ADHD can make shift work harder.
Spartanburg's economy centers on automotive manufacturing and textiles and chemicals.
How ADHD Evaluation and Treatment Works
Your first visit is a full evaluation by secure video. Your provider reviews your symptoms, your history back to childhood, how attention problems affect your work and home life, and other conditions that can look like ADHD, such as anxiety, depression and poor sleep.
If you have not completed a formal ADHD evaluation or testing before, our practice requires objective ADHD testing before ADHD treatment can begin. The testing is a separate computerized assessment of the three core symptoms of ADHD: attention, activity and impulsivity. It is completed online as part of your evaluation, usually before your virtual visit with your provider, on a third-party, web-based, FDA-cleared ADHD assessment platform. It gives your provider objective data from validated testing to aid the diagnosis, but on its own it is not enough to diagnose ADHD. ADHD testing is self-pay and not covered by insurance; our front desk will tell you the cost when you schedule. Your visits with your provider may be billed to your insurance according to your plan benefits.
Treatment is built with you and can include medication when clinically appropriate, counseling for organization and coping strategies, and regular follow-up.
Insurance and Scheduling
We accept Medicare, most major commercial plans, and all South Carolina Medicaid managed care plans except Select Health (First Choice). New patients are often able to be scheduled within a week of requesting an appointment.
