Columbia's economy centers on state government, higher education, insurance and the military.
Richland County is federally designated as a mental health professional shortage area for its low-income residents, and neighboring Lexington County is designated countywide. Telehealth lets Columbia residents see a provider without waiting for a local opening.
How Depression Treatment Works
Depression is more than sadness. It means low mood or loss of interest most of the day, nearly every day, for two weeks or more, often with changes in sleep, appetite, energy and concentration.
Your first visit is a full evaluation by secure video. Your provider uses standard questionnaires such as the PHQ-9, asks about your health and stresses, and looks for medical causes such as thyroid problems.
Treatment can include therapy, medication when clinically appropriate, or both. Your provider repeats the same questionnaires over time, so you can both see whether treatment is working. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 or call 911.
Insurance and Scheduling
We accept Medicare, most major commercial plans, and all South Carolina Medicaid managed care plans except Select Health (First Choice). New patients are often able to be scheduled within a week of requesting an appointment.
